about
I suppose this is a dysfunctional love song. What do you call a relationship that isn't a relationship? I would also say this is an ode to hating Valentines Day as well. There's a lot going on here and I remember writing this song quite well. I have always thought this song should be redone with a more country arrangement and production with female lead vocals. It makes more sense that a woman finds the midnight knock on the door a bit more intolerable than a man. I can hear Loretta singing this, can you?
I am still struggling with long term health problems.
Every little bit helps.
Your support is much appreciated. Thanks.
lyrics
You thought your little presents would open up my eyes
But they just reminded me of the times I made you cry
This on again and off again I can't take it anymore
Caught somewhere between you loving me and sleeping on your floor
CHORUS
And paper hearts and chocolate roses they don't mean that much to me
Every time I think about you I fall down on my knees
Now I'm not the kind to beg you and you're not the kind to cry
I'll just keep my dignity and you can keep your Valentines
Now I don't know how it started and I don't know how it ends
I don't know much about relationships but I know we're more than friends
You love me when you're with me and forget me when I'm gone
You showed up again late last night and kept me up til dawn
CHORUS
There's really nothing special about this February day
Just a time to look back on as when you finally went away
It's not the cards or candy, I'm just a sucker for your smile
Someday I'll be over you but it just might take a while
CHORUS
